Americans Die Younger and Weigh More than Canadians

Lynn A. Foster of New York City Elected to Population Council Board of Trustees
Lynn A. Foster, a successful financial professional who has been a volunteer leader of several major non-profit organizations, was elected to the Population Council’s board of trustees at its December 2003 meeting. (8 January)

Plastic Ups the Endocrine Ante According to Population Council Research
Population Council scientists and colleagues published research findings revealing that rats exposed to chronic, low levels of a common agent used in plastics develop an increase in sex hormone levels. Premature increases in sex hormones have been found to induce precocious puberty and are associated with increased risk of endocrine cancers. (5 January)
